March’s Top Grossing Mobile Games: Newcomers Shake Up the Industry!

Recently, the mobile app market research firm Appmagic released the Top Grossing Mobile Games ranking for March 2024. In this latest list, Tencent's MOBA mobile game Honor of Kings continues to rank the first, with a revenue of approximately $133 million in March. The casual mobile game Monopoly Go, which has been online for just a year, ranked the second, with a month-over-month revenue growth of about $12 million, reaching $116.7 million.

It's not surprising for Honor of Kings to maintain its top spot on the mobile game bestseller list. But how did Monopoly Go, the biggest dark horse in the US and global mobile game market in 2023, gradually ascend to the throne of casual gaming?

Monopoly Go has dominated the top spot on the US iOS bestseller list for over 200 days, making it the hottest mobile game in nearly a year. On its release day alone, Monopoly Go was downloaded over 500,000 times, with over 20 million downloads in the first month and nearly $17 million in revenue. In less than a year, Monopoly Go has repeatedly broken revenue records, with the game developer Scopely officially disclosing that total revenue has surpassed $2 billion.

Apart from the champion and runner-up, how did other games fare in terms of rankings and revenue?

In the March’s Top Grossing Mobile Games rank, the games ranked the third to tenth are PUBG MOBILE, Royal Match, Honkai: Star Rail, Roblox, Candy Crush Saga, Last War: Survival Game, Coin Master, and Legend of Mushroom.

Among them, Honkai: Star Rail saw a revenue increase of $30 million compared to February, jumping from the ninth to fifth place in the ranking.

The adventure RPG mobile game Legend of Mushroom, released by Joy Net Games on the 4399 International distribution platform, rose 15 places compared to February, making its debut in the top-ten grossing ranking for March.

Furthermore, the revenue momentum of Last War: Survival Game, a 4X strategy mobile game under the publisher FirstFun, is particularly noteworthy. The game's revenue was only $2 million in November last year, but soared to $45.3 million in February this year, and further increased to $66.2 million in March, resulting in a five-place rise in rankings compared to February.

It is clear from the ranking and their changes that new games are constantly rising and challenging the top positions in the market.
