2023 Summer Game Festival: Many Excellent Works Announced at Release Conference

On June 9th, the 2023 Summer Game Fest was held successfully through an online live stream. The fest was created by Geoff Keighley in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out. Being the man standing behind TGA (The Game Awards), Geoff Keighley came up with the idea for the Summer Game Fest and used his vast connections and prominent role in the industry to create a platform for game developers to showcase their latest games to a huge audience online.

This year is the fourth year of the Summer Game Fest, and some big names in the gaming industry showed up for this event, including Activision, Capcom, EA, Steam, CDPR, Bandai Namco, Ubisoft, Microsoft, Sony, and many others. The Summer Game Fest always brings excitement with highly anticipated game trailers every year. The live stream also revealed new promotional videos for games like "Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name", "Marvel's Spider-Man 2", "Alan Wake II", "Party Animals", "Lies of P" to name a few. These exciting trailers raised players' expectations even higher! And there were many other new games announced during the festival too, including "Sand Land" (game version) by Akira Toriyama, Sega's "Sonic Superstars", Focus' "John Carpenter's Toxic Commando", Paradox's "Star Trek: Infinite", as well as the highly anticipated new indie title "Yes, Your Grace Snowfall" by Brave at Night, and Sand Door Studio's time loop game "Lysfanga: The Time Shift Warrior" (PC version), and much more.

The Summer Game Fest of 2023 was able to showcase a lot of new information about the latest games, which proves that the Fest has become one of the most important platforms for game developers to promote their works.

The Summer Game Fest is raising more and more attention from game developers, and it has started to gain the fame of a "new-gen gaming expo" away from E3.

Since 2020, the Summer Game Fest has been breaking viewing records through its live streams, while E3, which used to be a major event in the gaming industry, has been struggling. In recent years, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, E3 has lost its significance as a platform for business communication and offline gameplay demonstrations, resulting in many game developers losing trust in it. The 2023 E3 gaming expo, which was supposed to take place in June at the Los Angeles Convention Center, has been canceled mainly because many big game companies chose not to attend.

E3 is losing its ground in the competition with the Summer Game Fest, mainly because   social media becoming increasingly important in the market promotion. The Summer Game Fest has a more complete business model and uses a wider range of promotional platforms (like YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok), which can better meet the needs of game developers and provide them with exhibition services. Therefore, the Fest becomes increasingly popular among game developers.

The comparison between the Summer Game Fest and E3 shows that innovation is a key to business development.
